Integrated monitoring of process variables such as the hardening result and concentricity assures a high level of quality. In particular, the deviation in concentricity that occurs in every hardening process must be as small as possible in order to minimise the amount of grinding work that must subsequently be performed. Marking and encoding units ensure that each hardened crankshaft is assigned the parameters for its hardening process. These parameters are of course saved in a database and transferred to host systems.
Production data can be encoded on every crankshaft, for example using a data matrix code, making it possible to analyse the hardening process even after it has been completed.
The concentricity of the main bearing journal is measured after hardening. The aim is to keep the amount of grinding work as low as possible by precisely controlling the hardening process.
