Modular technology for making your large crankshafts

Technology at ALFING isn't just restricted to the development and application of a particular manufacturing technique. For us technology means the continuous optimization of all the processes involved in manufacturing a large crankshaft.

The ALFING process steps are:

  • Process planning
  • Supporting the customer in the design development of crankshaft forgings and forged crankshafts with 3D CAD systems
  • 3D-CAD development of forging dies and forging equipment
  • CAM/DNC forging die and Vorrichtungsfertigung
  • Forging the crankshaft forgings
    • Die-forging
    • HfH forging (throw-by-throw forging)
    • TR forging (forging with Tadeusz Rut tools)
  • Heat treatment, quenching
  • Machining the large crankshaft
  • Increasing the strength
(surface treatment, e.g. Induction hardening, fillet rolling or shot peening, etc.)
  • Dimensional measurement, ultrasonic testing, crack detection and material testing
  • Mounting the crankshaft accessories such as counterweights, gears, etc.
  • Fatigue strength testing
  • Torsion and bending fatigue testing

ALFING technology for the manufacture of large crankshafts is thus made up of many individual steps which together add up to the assurance of consistently high quality. And in each area we keep on working at further refinements.

The objective is always customer-oriented success.
