... ALFING Research & Development

Even though ALFING does not literally develop "its own products", we are still very focused on research and development. Our customers expect us to support them with our know-how and advice during the development stages of a crankshaft. We are continually improving and refining this knowledge which has kept us at the top for many years – where we also intend to remain.

ALFING R&D know-how includes:

  • Design of crankshaft forgings
  • Optimized machining allowances to save material and production costs
  • Selection and testing of the most suitable materials with regard to surface treatment and hardening
  • Machining of the webs with regard to counterweight design and optimal weight
  • Machining processes for a wide range of lubricating hole systems
  • Special treatment of oil channel openings
  • Provision of lightening holes in main and pin bearings
  • Design of the main and pin bearing radii, axially or radially recessed or tangential
  • Use of a variety heat treatment processes, e.g. induction hardening with ALFING induction hardening equipment
  • Machining of integrated sprocket or gear wheels
  • Optimal balancing using heavy metal either radially or axially
  • Development of new production processes to improve performance at the same time as saving space
  • Mounting of a variety of auxiliary parts
