The tests serve to monitor and accept the results of the heat treatment process and to ensure "quality values" specified by the customer and/or classification society are maintained.
The test specimens in the automotive area are obtained by destroying crankshafts. For large crankshafts they are mainly obtained from forged-on test specimens which accompany the part through the whole forging and heat treatment process.
